UNI Recirculation Systems

The global leader in advanced recirculation technology...

The strength of UNI Recirculation Systems is the ability to create an environment for optimal production where all significant water parameters are simultaneously controlled and adjusted for optimal growth.

AKVA group's philosophy is to optimize the recirculation facility to provide the best possible conditions for the individual species to be cultured. The success criteria of any system is that the fish are able to thrive in terms of growth performance and fish health, resulting in a superior harvest quality. Consequently, we design each system specifically to suit each individual specie and to meet customer requirements.

AKVA group offers a wide range of services from planning and design to turn-key projects world wide. This includes both rebuilds and upgrades as well as brand new recirculation fish farms.

Why choose UNI Recirculation Systems?

Whether the plan is to introduce recirculation technology into an existing or a brand new aquaculture facility, we always strive to satisfy the client's needs by a good margin.

Togheter with the client, we try to find the best UNI recirculation solution for the entire project so that the new technology is implemented as efficient as possible and the system reaches normal production as quikly as possible.

AKVA group is the only supplier specializing in recirculation systems for both freshwater and full salinity saltwater with many proven commercial scale projects.

UNI Recirculation Systems have proven second to none in terms of overall performance and profitability.

AKVA group offers a unique warranty that sepcific water quality will be achieved at a specific load.

UNI Recirculation Systems are designed to comply with requirements of insurance companies. This can lower premiums and result in more favourable insurance terms.

AKVA group has more than 30 years aquaculture engineering experience that is used to design and supply viable recirculation projects.

Our experienced project managers provide invaluable assistance in the project planning togheter with our customers.

AKVA group offers assistance with applications and regulation compliance in order to obtain necessary farming permits.

Careful elaboration of the production plan and system design is an important part of the planning process.

What is recirculation?

Recirculation is when a water treatment system substitutes a raw water source in order to regenerate a water quality suitable for fish farming. The main reasons to do this are:
- To replace a limited water source in order to increase fish production.
- To secure pathogen control.
- To control water temperature and save energy.
- To improve logistical control of the production independent of local conditions.
- To improve and optimise growth rates, fish quality and overall production performance.

The waste products which have to be removed in the water treatment plant are:

- Solid and suspended particles

- Organic matter

- CO2

- Bacteria and Ammonia products.

Furthermore, the consumed oxygen has to be replaced. In a standard recirculation concept, less than 1% of the water has to be replaced with new water for each cycle.

A standard UNI Recirculation System will treat the effluent water from the fish tanks as follows:

1. Mechanical Filter - removing solid particles larger than 50 microns.

2. UNI UV Filter - controlling bacterial dynamics and ecto-parasites.

3. UNI Bio Filter - removing organic matter and ammonia products.

4. UNI Micro Particle Filter - removing suspended particles in the 2-50 micron range.

5. UNI CO2 Stripper - removing CO2, nitrogen and sulphide residues.

This will include a de-nitrification filter for transferring nitrate into free nitrogen. Water usage in a recirculation system range from 30-500 litres for each kilo fish produced, depending on specie and degree of recirculation.
