The service team is getting even stronger!

This month, Renate and Astri started working at AKVA group’s service station and main workshop at Hitra. The workload is growing fast, so the women already have their hands full.
servicejenter eksternRenate Ottvad and Astri Solli Lorentzen, both industrial mechanics, agrees that the first impression has been excellent: Friendly workmates, varied work tasks and visits to accommodating clients is a good recipe for fun workdays moving forward. 

“I previously worked as a welder and industrial mechanic at a boat building firm. Working in AKVA group, means I will get the opportunity to travel and work with products on-site. That’s a nice change,” Renate says.  

Her colleague Astri has been working offshore for several years before joining AKVA group. For her, it is a clear advantage that the majority of my workdays will be spent at the service station at Hitra.

“Now I have a really enjoyable job that still allows me to spend more time with my family,” she smiles.  

Growing service team
The service team at Sandstad, Hitra currently counts 12 employees. During the course of spring, they will become a team of 13 when Børge Gjertås joins the team of service technicians. According to Service Manager Odd-Jan Håland, the service area is an important priority for AKVA group.

“We’re constantly getting new clients and have ramped up at several locations to ensure we’re able to give our customers the best possible service. In addition to the new employees at Hitra, we’ve also hired Christian Hammersnes as Support and Training Advisor in Trondheim and are in the process of employing new service technicians in Tromsø and Sortland. We’re also looking for new service technicians to a new service station at Rørvik,” he says.

In total, AKVA group’s service department will count up to 50 employees before the summer.

At Rørvik, AKVA group is moving into new facilities with Egersund Trading. The ambition for the new service station, which will open in February, is to create a center of competence for the aquaculture industry.   

“The new service station is shaped in the same mold as our facility at Hitra: Our clients will find everything they need at one place and can collect or drop off goods either by boat or vehicles. This gives us a proximity to our clients that is very important to us,” Håland says.

A nice «girl’s job»
Renate and Astri are not the only women in AKVA group’s service organization – but they are definitely a minority. That is nothing but an advantage, the girls state.

“Working in a male-dominated environment means less drama and a fun, easy-going work environment where everyone tells it like it is,” Astri summarizes and gets a huge, agreeing smile from Renate.

“Women will often have a different point of view on work methods and how to solve issues, and often have a special ability to promote well-being. We value what they bring to the table and would love to have more women on the team!” Håland concludes.
