Expanded landbased aquaculture
AKVA group is the main supplier of aquaculture equipment and technology to Denmark’s largest landbased salmon farm.
Ever more stringent environmental requirements in Denmark concerning the restricted discharge of industrial waste into rivers and lakes resulte in fish farms initially being relocated offshore. Now, more advanced systems with closed circuits and no impact on the surrounding environment are back for real. The biggest company is Danish Salmon A/S, which has just commissioned Denmark’s largest landbased facility for salmon on the outskirts of Hirtshals. This facility consists of three halls containing round tanks in which the fish live from the time they are fertilised as eggs until they are salmon ready to be harvested. There are two large and three small treatment plants and a 150 m2 administration building.
AKVA group Denmark has acted as a turnkey consultant and supplier of equipment for water treatment, oxygen control, feeding and sensors from the preliminary outline and draft stage through to completion of the project. “Danish Salmon is a fantastic opportunity for us. We are now able to invite customers from Russia and the United Arab Emirates to see the technology in operation,” says project manager Erik Odgaard for AKVA group Denmark.”
