Arctic Offshore Farming operates an aquaculture site west of Tromsø, using submersible steel cages developed for offshore conditions. To support feeding operations and day-to-day site management, the company required a combined feed and service barge designed to handle demanding weather conditions, long distances and high operational demands.
AKVA group delivered the AC800PVDB – a steel barge developed specifically for exposed sites. With a feed storage capacity of 800 tonnes and a length of 64.8 metres, the barge is designed for a significant wave height of 6.5 metres and engineered to withstand weather conditions from all directions.
The barge is equipped with waterborne feeding, providing significantly lower energy consumption compared with traditional air-based systems, while maintaining stable feeding capacity over long hose distances. Feed hose outlets beneath the barge allow flexible use of all sides during feed deliveries and other logistical operations.
The AC800PVDB also serves as a complete service hub, featuring a control room, accommodation, a veterinary room and an integrated boathouse at the stern. The boathouse enables safe handling and storage of service vessels in poor weather, contributing to safer and more efficient operations.
The barge was built at the BLRT Marketex shipyard in Tallinn and towed to Northern Norway in 2021, where it now serves as the operational centre for Arctic Offshore Farming’s facility at Fellesholmen.
