A feed barge is expected to operate for many years, under varying conditions and with changing requirements. That is why costs are assessed from a lifecycle perspective, where operation, maintenance, upgrades and flexibility are considered as a whole. AKVA’s feed barges are designed for seamless integration with our in-house feeding system, delivering documented gentle feed handling that contributes to savings throughout the lifetime of the barge.

Long service life
All feed barges are delivered with the goal of providing a long and predictable service life, tailored to actual operating conditions, site exposure and the customer’s strategy.
For steel barges, the design is developed for a service life of up to 25 years, provided that operation and maintenance are carried out correctly. The construction allows for rebuilding, upgrades and technical adaptations over time.
Concrete barges have different structural characteristics and may have a different service life profile, depending on design and operating environment. The robustness and stability of the material provide an alternative with different maintenance characteristics compared with steel.
Regardless of material choice, we provide technical support and assessments throughout the lifetime of the barge, ensuring that the solution remains safe, functional and relevant as requirements and needs evolve.
