January 27th our CEO Trond Williksen presented at the Arctic Frontiers in good company. Amongst the speakers were the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Director General of the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association Karl Eirik Schjøtt-Pedersen, CEO Marine Harvest Group Alf-Helge Aarskog, and a lot of other industry heavyweights.
The overarching theme of Arctic Frontiers Business 2016 is technologies for northern ocean space operations.
Trond Williksen was invited to speak about experiences and requirements for technology transfer in the aquaculture industry. He spoke about development within the industry, technology transfer from other industries to the aquaculture industry and mega trends driving the industry the moment, and he made it clear that technology transfer contributions from other industries, including the oil and marine industries are welcomed that they are relevant. He emphasized that in order to succeed with sustainable aquaculture there are several criteria’s that needs to be in place, not only technology. He also aired some skepticism towards the understanding that expensive offshore constructions inspired by the oil industry is the solution for the industry, pointing out that many can build something expensive that floats in exposed waters, but that might not be the solution developing a sustainable aquaculture industry.
